Yokoo

I've always dabbled in the ol' yarn crafts, but now that I'm experiencing actual cold I feel more inspired than ever. Makes me wish I had brought my knit and crochet tools with me, but whaddyagunnado? By the by, 5euro for a pair of circular needles hurts so much in this current economically depressed climate, especially now that the dear Aussie dollar is pretty much worthless, despite our economy still being strong - how does that work? Can anyone explain? But I digress. Flickr-ing through the latest Wardrobe Remix just now I've found the most cuddly woollens to warm my extremities this Winter, courtesy of etsy seller Yokoo:

These are totally stylish and functional, and she takes the most beautiful photos. I want!!

Likkle girls...

I just wanted to give a shout out to a Sydney girl's blog that I read regularly. Abs and I do a lot of fashion/lifestyle/crafty blog reading, yes indeed, and the bulk of the bloggers out there that we like tend to be based in Northern hemisphere parts. The Likkle Girl Who Wurves Pwetty Things however, is refreshingly local and reading her blog stirs within me a certain warmth that comes with reading Sydney-flavoured words while I'm away. Plus she makes these cute little tape measure brooches:

Or she used to make them anyway! Hopefully she'll bring em back to her store!

Auction ending earlier

Just letting everyone know that we've brought the end date for this dress forward because we've had some bidders concerned they won't get the dress in time for Melbourne Cup Day. You now have until Oct 26 to place your bid!

Berlin update...

When I decided to go to Berlin, a few people thought it was rubbish timing to be going just in time for the dark, dark Winter. Winter hasn't hit yet, but I sure am glad I got here in time to experience my first real Autumn:

I don't miss the hot Sydney temperatures at all, and I'm kind of looking forward to this depressingly grey Winter. I mean, when you put it like that it doesn't seem so appealing but I'm curious to see what it feels like to live in sub-zero weather...I am setting myself up for a fall here I'm sure!

Meanwhile, here are some of the vintage shoe finds I've scored while in town so far. They'll be going up in the store at some point, when I figure out the postal system!

I found the prettiest pair of navy suede Bruno Magli pumps (with the bows), and some Bally oxford flats (not pictured, I'm not sure why). Actually the brown suede brogue-y lace-up flats you see at the bottom were a pair I got in North Conway, New Hampshire while I was road-tripping with some dear friends a couple months ago. They're by Cole Haan, and have never been worn! I took them with me thinking I'd keep them but I have managed to collect so many other pairs while travelling, and they're beginning to bog me down.

Todd Oldham in our store!

Todd Oldham is too busy being a Top Design mentor to be making clothes these days, but we have a rare collector's piece from his fashion days of yore:

Great pair of high waisted palazzo trousers! In the store now!

Diane von Furstenberg

While driving through Georgia on our thrifting adventure, we stopped by a little thrift store in the town of Jesop. Run by little old church ladies who loved - and I mean LOVED - Sarah Palin, the store was stuffed top to bottom with racks and racks of clothes. This place was what we classify officially in our records as a Fried Goldmine, and we walked out with literally piles of stuff, including this lovely 1970s western shirt dress:

We inspected it for flaws when we got back to the motel and it was in beautiful condition. Then we finally checked the tag so we could log the info for the listing and here's what it said:

There we were, chuffed at how we managed to find this awesome dress, and it turned out to be a vintage Diane von Furstenberg! High five!

It will be going up in the store next Sunday!

Blog Lovin'

Follow my blog with bloglovin´

Absy and I are Google Readers, historically speaking, but here we are, jumping on the Blog Lovin' bandwagon. It sure looks pretty, that's for sure!

RSS...

Oh and if you have tried unsuccessfully in the past to subscribe to this blog - we've fixed all the RSS rubbish that was holding us back. Mea culpa! So dude - subscribe to our blog already!!

Party Season in the store...

The store has been updated with new dresses for this year's party season! Just in time for Melbourne Cup day and the string of parties we're all bound to be trekking out to.

Bill Tice for Malcolm Starr

This is a beautiful vintage 60s/70s black cocktail dress by Bill Tice for Malcolm Starr. It has a reverse wrap detail to feature a plunging V back:

It drapes beautifully, feels so comfortable on and is in excellent condition, no flaws to speak of. The boatneck line is totally Audrey Hepburn, and the fabric is a smooth, durable jersey like fabric. We think it's the chicest little black dress.

So this is our favourite item for the next few weeks. It will go up in the store very soon - just in time for the party season!!

On Ebay right now!

Sorry folks, we had a couple of quiet weeks in the store recently. My excuse? I moved to Berlin and didn't have good enough Internet to pull me through. Also Abs and I have been working out the kinks of running the store in different countries. So, with offices in Sydney Australia, and Berlin Germany, I give you - new awesome items for auction right now!!

Missed it by THAT MUCH.

Sigh. Oh Wiksten Orchard Top, when will we be together?

It was in her shop for only a few precious moments.

I will have to content myself with my Tova top in the meantime.

Hello Sailor!

A good friend of ours once made the following comment:

"Sailors were hot during the war."

The good news is that sailors are hot again...but I guess we are in a war so that sort of makes sense. Sartorially speaking however, this is what I mean:

(via anneso_cachemireetsoie's flickr thanks to Wardrobe Remix)

Such a cute look, one that I don't think I can personally pull off or commit to. The last time I rocked the sailor look I believe I was six and begging my mother to make me a sailor suit, so I'm loving that the nautical themes are once again coming out of the woodwork.
